Born in the mountains. Built for the wild.
Since 2009, Himalayan Ibex has taken travellers beyond the ordinary and into the mountains of Kashmir — skiing, snowboarding, trekking and journeys shaped by local knowledge.
Our story
A journey that began in Kashmir

Himalayan Ibex was not dreamt up in a boardroom. It grew from a simple idea: the mountains should be experienced, not merely visited. Since 2009 we have guided, skied, walked and learned from these ranges. Our roots are in Kashmir, where generations of mountain knowledge meet modern adventure. What began as a passion for the Himalayas is now a mountain company dedicated to meaningful, safe, unforgettable days for travellers from India and abroad.
The school sits year-round in Gulmarg and Tangmarg, on the Pir Panjal. Winter is deep powder, gondola, golf-course lessons and backcountry touring with avalanche kit. Summer is alpine lakes, high passes and Trans-Himalayan valleys. The same people do both seasons. We are not a pop-up that arrives with the first snowfall and leaves when the meadows open.
Ghulam Mohammad Wani — Gullu — registered as an official ski guide with J&K Tourism in 2009. Co-founders Mozim and Jawsheed brought itinerary craft and snowboarding to the same table. Around them stand IISM-trained instructors, gold-medal snowboard coaching, ski guides who know every gulley, and a medical-trained instructor. Eighty per cent of our guests come back. That number is not bought. It is earned on ordinary Tuesdays when the light is flat and the guiding still has to be good.
We specialise in skiing, snowboarding, trekking, expeditions and tailor-made Kashmir journeys. We do not believe in moving people from hotel to viewpoint like a checklist. We believe in creating journeys worth remembering: the first clean turn, silence on a meadow, kehwa after a long day, wind in a high valley, standing somewhere few holiday itineraries bother to reach.
From the moment you land we can handle the unglamorous pieces — transfers, stays, gear, gondola, custom backcountry or a family ski week. Advanced booking is wise in peak season. Tell us what you are after. We will say if the mountain, the dates and your ability actually match.
Philosophy
Go further. Experience deeper.
The Himalayas have never been a backdrop for us. They are where we learn, explore, challenge ourselves and make memories. Explore with purpose. Travel with respect. Adventure responsibly. Leave with a story.
Respect the mountain
The Himalayas do not need to be conquered. They need to be understood. Responsible adventure begins with respect for landscape, weather, local communities, wildlife and the people who call these mountains home. We travel with curiosity, operate with care, and leave the ground as we found it.
Adventure is not taking from the mountain
It is becoming part of its story. Leave-no-trace on trek, honest grades, and the humility to turn around when the snowpack or the pass says so. Good guiding is knowing when to push and when to stop.
The trail is not just a route
It is the story. Kashmir reveals its finest landscapes when you leave the road — forests, meadows, remote valleys, high lakes, nights under Himalayan sky. We walk with people who understand these mountains from the inside.
What guides us
Our values
Local knowledge
Every ridge, gully and wind pattern — our guides read these mountains like a book. There is no substitute for growing up here, or for years of IISM and JIM&WS training on the same snow.
Safety first, always
Full avalanche safety gear on winter outings. Certified guides. First aid and oxygen on the bigger treks. We do not cut corners to make a photograph.
Genuine hospitality
This is not transactional tourism. We take pride in sharing home — mountains, culture, food — and in designing the week around your ability, not a one-size product.
Authentic Kashmir
Beyond Srinagar’s gardens sit Gurez, Bangus, Tosamaidan, Warwan, Margan, Aharbal. We create journeys for travellers who want a different side of the region, without pretending the famous places have no beauty of their own.
Professional approach
Planning, transport, activities and accommodation are handled with the same seriousness as a powder morning. Tailor-made itineraries are normal, not an upsell afterthought.
Responsible exploration
Leave no trace. Respect villages — especially on sensitive trails such as Warwan. Protect mountain landscapes and wildlife. The future of this work depends on the places remaining themselves.
Credentials
Registered, accountable, here
Registered Adventure Tour Operator — Jammu & Kashmir Tourism
JKAT00000185
Himalayan Ibex operates as a registered adventure tour operator with J&K Tourism under registration number JKAT00000185. It is a small line on a website and a large one in how we work: permits, insurance on trek departures, and a name you can look up. Ask us for documents when you book.
People who belong here
The company is built by people whose lives are tied to Kashmir’s mountains. Founders Gullu, Mozim and Jawsheed, then the trainers and guides who ski, ride and walk with you. Local roots. Mountain experience. A welcome that still feels like Kashmir.
