7-Day Ultimate Himalayan Freeride Snowboarding
Advanced to expert · Mt. Apharwat up to 4,300 m
Enquire / BookOverview
At a glance
This is freeride snowboarding in the Western Himalayas for riders who already charge steep powder and want guided access to Gulmarg’s biggest terrain. Over seven days you warm up on Mary’s Shoulder, drop Phase 2 bowls with thousand-metre verticals, boot-pack toward Apharwat’s summit, hunt forest pillows, and finish with a long wilderness line into Drung Valley.
Guided by certified high-altitude experts Gullu, Mozim, and Jawsheed, the week treats avalanche awareness and snowpack reading as non-negotiable. Personal freeride equipment is not included — bring a board and boots you trust in deep snow and variable alpine conditions.
Clear days can open views toward Nanga Parbat; storm days send you into pine and birch glades where powder hides from the wind. Either way, the call belongs to the mountain and the guide — not the itinerary printed at home.

Private 4×4 transfer from Srinagar International Airport to Gulmarg Ski Village. Hotel check-in, gear check, and board setup tuning with the Himalayan Ibex team. Evening briefing on snowpack dynamics, mountain safety protocols, and a welcome dinner.
Phase 1 & Mary’s Shoulder warm-up
Beacon drills before big lines
Gondola Phase 1 (roughly 2,700–3,100 m) and chairlift access to Mary’s Shoulder. Warm-up runs in deep powder and avalanche beacon / rescue safety drills with certified guides. Afternoon: freeride navigation through open glades down toward the base village.
Phase 2 high-alpine big bowl riding
1,000 m+ vertical bowls
Ride Gondola Phase 2 to the high station on Mt. Apharwat. Drop into massive open powder bowls (Main Bowl, Shepherd’s Bowl) featuring 1,000+ metre vertical drops. Focus on high-altitude powder carving, steep lines, and alpine feature navigation.
Peak summiting & backcountry couloirs
Untracked faces · Nanga Parbat views
Boot-pack / hike from Phase 2 top station toward the summit of Mt. Apharwat. Drop into steep couloirs and untracked backcountry faces with views of Nanga Parbat (8,126 m) when skies open. Afternoon: extended freeride descent all the way back toward Gulmarg village.
Tree riding & storm day stashes
Pillows and sheltered powder
Deep-snow forest freeriding across technical glades. Explore dense pine and birch tree lines through Baba Reshi, Monkey Hill, and Drung Valley approaches — natural pillow lines, optional cliff features for those who want them, and sheltered powder stashes.
The long descent — Drung Valley run
1,800 m+ vertical · Wazwan
Early gondola access for a full-day backcountry expedition. Execute a continuous 1,800+ metre vertical backcountry descent into remote Drung Valley. Evening: traditional Kashmiri Wazwan celebration dinner with the team.
