Trans-Himalayan Traverse
Seven days from Warwan toward Panikhar and the Suru — Kashmir green into Ladakh rock, camping and homestay.

At a glance
This is the Warwan-to-Panikhar line: a remote Trans-Himalayan high-altitude traverse linking isolated Warwan in Kashmir to the Suru Valley in Ladakh. You leave lush alpine country and finish in cold-desert rock, with a change in terrain, culture and climate that you feel in the legs and in the light.
The route uses secluded Warwan villages, alpine meadows, glacial basins, moraine, snowfields and a high pass. River crossings, steep climbs, long descents and shepherd trails with little permanent infrastructure make it a wilderness walk, not a marked park path. We grade it moderate to hard — for people with mountain days behind them, comfortable with remote camping. Season is June to August, depending on snow on the pass. Highest camp and pass country sits around 4,400 metres on this itinerary (nearby lines can feel higher when snow is late).
Stay mixes tents and homestay. Himalayan Ibex runs logistics, food, safety kit and certified leaders. We do not sell this on other people’s names. You finish near Panikhar and the Nun–Kun massif — one of the dramatic mountain frontiers of the region.
Led by: Himalayan Ibex certified trek leaders and mountain staff. This traverse is ours to run — local knowledge of Warwan, the pass and Suru, without other operators’ names on the page.

Itinerary
Day by day
Srinagar to Warwan Valley
Pickup in Srinagar. Drive into Warwan. Homestay in Sukhnai village, hot dinner, and a short acclimatisation walk. First night is a roof and local hospitality before the tents begin.
Sukhnai to Humpet campsite
After breakfast we pack and walk toward Humpet / Dhrumgam country. Lunch at a Nichhang viewpoint. Overnight camp. Tea, breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner through the day. The landscape is the Warwan grasslands opening toward the divide.
Humpet to Kanital Valley
A full walking day into Kanital Nar. Time to look at the glaciers that hang on the walls. Lunch in the valley. Night camp at Kanital Nar — quiet, cold, and a different trail character from the south Kashmir lake walks.
Kanital to Pinji campsite
Early light on the valley, then a glacier-leaning day toward Pinji. On arrival the Barmal glacier fills the view. Camp at Pinji. Leave-no-trace as always; this is remote country.
Pinji camp to Kalapari Lake via Lonevilaad Pass
The landscape shifts from green valleys to Trans-Himalayan rock.
We cross Lonevilaad Pass. After the descent, a glacier-fed lake holds the peaks. Rocky basins and alpine stretches lead to Kalapari Lake — remote, quiet, mirror water. Camp here for the night.
Kalapari to Suru Valley
Down from Donaru camp into Suru: wide valleys, riverbeds, green meadows again, and Nun–Kun dominating the skyline. Night in a local homestay in the Suru Valley — warmth, food, and a roof after days in the wild.
Suru to Srinagar
Drive out from Suru / Panikhar side toward Srinagar. A long, scenic road day that closes the traverse. Drop in Srinagar by evening depending on traffic and weather at Zojila.
